This artwork attempts to count the amount of people are needed to make a dot on the map. I explored the calculation methods and formulas for calculating the number of people who needed to be gathered together to create the slight differences seen on the map. From small road maps to world maps. This work compares our size as humans to the world in which we live. Although knowing the answer to the question may seem useless. I believe that we need to know and see our physical size on earth because this will help in reflecting on our placement in the world metaphorically and psychologically.
The colours of the people chosen for this map are made of indigo. Inspired by the Indonesia quote ‘setitik nila kerusakan susu sebelanga’(A speck of indigo ruins the entire carton of milk), which means that a small bad deed that ruin everything. The artist questioned whether that point could actually damage the map or beautify it by adding colour to the black and white map. |
